When I began my academic career at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) as another unsure teenager before realizing that my lifelong passion for sports was driven by sports journalism, and that was what I truly wanted to do with my career. After completing a nine-credit internship, I will graduate from IUP in December of 2014. For this internship I am seeking a position in the field of literary, visual, or audio field of sports journalism.
While at IUP, I decided to hone my skills directed toward my interest in sports journalism by majoring in Communications Media and minoring in Journalism. I have participated in numerous classes that directly addressed those interests such as Television Production, Scriptwriting, Internet & Multimedia, as well as several other Journalism and Writing courses. During my studies, I have become familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint, as well as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Writing for the sports section of The Penn, IUP's bi-weekly student newspaper, was one of my more enjoyable things I did during my time in college. When school was not in session, my breaks were spent expediting for the architectural engineering firms of Scott L. Scnall, P.E. and Municpal Buildings Consultants in New York City. My time there taught me many things including behavior in professional enviornments, how to adapt to a new position and handle failures along the way, and working efficiently but urgently. Sports have been a huge part of my life since I was a young boy growing up on Long Island, New York. Having two professional teams in every major sport creates a deep rivalry amongst New Yorkers, and a passion that is incomparable to anywhere else in the world. Not everybody can be a professional athlete, but I believe my experience, hard-working attitude, and lovefor their craft will make me an asset to those who report on our favorite athletes. |
